Sutterton Lorry Park will help reduce crime

Sutterton Truck Stop has received the prestigious Park Mark, the Safer Parking Scheme award that recognises that the parking facilities that are in place actively deter crime and the fear of crime.

Lincolnshire Police welcomed the facility, not only because of the crime prevention potential, but also because it reduces the potential for lorries to be parked in and around local residential and industrial estates offering a safer, better facilitated alternative.

John Manuel, Designing Out Crime Officer, Lincolnshire Police said ‘I am delighted to welcome Sutterton Truck Stop to the Safer Parking Scheme, which was recently awarded the Park Mark, the first of its type in the Lincolnshire Police area.  The truck park provides excellent facilities incorporating all aspects of safety, security and exemplary management practices. I am looking forward to working alongside the company directors in the future.”

Local area Inspector Fran Harrod, who recently toured the site said, “It is a first in Lincolnshire and will hopefully assist in reducing crime suffered by the haulage industry across Boston and South Holland”.

A Park Mark is awarded to parking facilities that pass a rigorous risk assessment conducted by the police and the British Parking Association.  The assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, ensuring that there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness.  These criteria are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and create a safer environment.

John Manual added: “We are very supportive of this initiative which has been very carefully thought through and planned, with the drivers at the forefront of that planning. Being able to provide secure and safe parking for vehicles and excellent facilities for drivers will significantly contribute to help reduce HGV related crime”.
