Hat-trick for Newark and Sherwood with three safer parking awards
Council is only authority in the UK to currently hold three sector-leading accreditations.
The surface car parks managed by Newark and District Council have once again achieved both the prestigious Park Mark award and Disabled Parking accreditation for all of their managed car parks in Newark. This in itself is a fantastic achievement, however, this forward-thinking authority has also gained the new Park Mark Freight award for Newark Lorry Park located in Great North Road, Newark.
These awards recognise that its parking facilities have measures in place that actively deter crime and the fear of crime in car parks and Newark and Sherwood District Council are the only authority in the country to have received all three awards.
These awards are for parking facilities that pass a rigorous risk assessment conducted by the police and the British Parking Association. Assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, ensuring that there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage, and cleanliness. These criteria are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and create a safer environment for the motorist and their vehicle.
Councillor Roger Jackson, Portfolio Holder for Cleaner, Safer, Greener at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “I’m pleased to see we are once again being recognised for the safety and security of our car parks. We are dedicated to creating a cleaner, safer, greener district and these awards show that the hard work and investment into security measures is proving successful. I hope these Park Marks reassure car park users that they can feel safe using our sites.”
Peter Gravells, BPA Area Manager said: “This is a fantastic achievement and I am delighted that Newark and Sherwood District Council has achieved the Park Mark, DPA and Park Mark Freight awards, demonstrating the hard work and commitment to providing a safe environment for users.
