Glass Works is the first car park in Barnsley to receive the elite, Park Mark Plus award.

Building on the well-regarded Safer Parking Scheme’s Park Mark award, the new Park Mark Plus recognises only the highest quality car parks. The award assesses a range of criteria from services and operations to design and build. To qualify for the award, the car park must meet Park Mark and Disability Parking Accreditation criteria as a minimum.

Customer expectations for well-managed, high quality car parks are exerting demand on the sector to deliver excellent services and enhanced customer experience whilst caring for the environment. Technology is also playing a growing role in delivering a seamless and efficient customer experience.

Environmental sustainability is a key focus of this award; the assessment included the availability of electric charging bays and energy saving equipment.

South Yorkshire Police have been involved with the project since the design phase of this brand new multi-storey car park in the centre of Barnsley. This has ensured that the safety of people and their vehicles within the car park has been at the forefront of the design.

Ryan Davey, British Parking Association Area Manager said: “Glass Works is a very impressive multi-storey car park which has incorporated all of the criteria for Park Mark Plus including structural integrity, environment, design, management & operations and customer experience.”

Jack Regan, Designing Out Crime Officer, South Yorkshire Police said: “This car park is the first in Barnsley to attain the Park Mark Plus accreditation. Barnsley Planning Department leads the way in the South Yorkshire with regard to Designing out Crime and thoroughly deserve the award.”
